Hip-Hop & spoken word
Lucy Kitt is planning her albulm release and can be seen around town lately playing regularly with the likes of Syd Arthur and accessories.  Popular as always but don't take the word of the kid.  Check out her space and treat yourself to one of her live performances soon - before she hits the big time!
We love Taxi for Sam, because they're funky and because they've worked really hard at their art over the last year.  They also have a couple of new band members and a bit more brass.  So check out their space for upcoming local gigs.

Ever popular is Mr Spink and his pretty, elf-like accompianist, Heather, who enchants every male in the audience with her flute like vocals, exquisite penny whistling and harmonica playing.  When and where are they playing next? Space it!

Leo and the Main are a good example of why we need to give maximum support to local talent.  Kid heard these folks a couple years back and they were different but a little naive and unrehearsed.  Now, with thier sound perfected the Canterbury boys have come good and released their first albulm.  www.myspace.com/rocketeerrecords

Kingskin. Funk, grunge - whatever!  The guys have a large sound and a large image but did make it back to visit uni town quite regularly, why haven't we seen them locally lately? mabes we need to find a venue grand enough to accomodate the size of their skins! www.myspace.com/kingskin

Dead Spies (right) were a support act at Orange street last year.
They have an suspicious stage prescence and unerving capacity to play crazy licks whilst all managing to look like 007 doubles. We must have them again!  Oramge street?

Motion picture soundtrack. Based around the thriving music scene of Canterbury, Motion Picture Soundtrack are Alastair and Graeme Blackwood, Nick Watts and Will Hasler.

Thier dramatic yet sensitive melodies, are haunting and evoke a sense of grandious no doubt an influence in their opportunity to record their debut album with Paul Schroeder (Stone Roses, The Verve) Motion Picture Soundtrack are on Myspace

The Psychotic Reaction.  These guys are really quite tame despite the name but they do have some catchy and thoughtful lyrics and Alex's guitar techniques never fail to intrique the kid.  Since the addition of Alex 2 on the bass the band has taken on a more funky feel though still distinctly indie/alternative.  Definately one to watch says the kid www.thepsychoticreation.co.uk

The Laurel Collective. Hard to believe this dub based almost  hip-hop sounding combination http://www.myspace.com/thelaurelcollective

The Body Machine.

There demo EP has been a great success and they are planning more time in the studio soon.

Fundamental Skills. are like a cross between Red Hot chilli Peppers and...well, you tell me? check out their Myspace and tell the kid what you think.  Even better, you can catch Fundamental at The Word, June 16th in the Dane John Gardens Canterbury, which runs from 12 till 7pm saturday.

SNUFF RADIO make plenty of electronic sounds and speak plenty strange & wonderful things over that unique sound.  Reminds the kid a bit of early Prodigy stuff but the kid is alway open to contradiction.  hear Snuff radio out for a minute at The Word Festial, Dane John Gardens, June 16th.  They will be playing at about 2:30 -  Just after lunch?!
